Drake Visits Marvin's Room

Have you been having Drake withdrawals?  You won't have to wait too long!  His sophomore album, Take Care, will be out in October 24th!  A new single will be out in July, but that doesn't mean we don't have any new material from the Toronto native.

Check out "Marvin's Room" below!  A drunken Drake dials up an ex and reminisces about their relationship.  The song is beautifully woven and seriously soothing.

Shakira Goes Rabiosa

Even though the Colombian belly dancer has been touring, Shakira found time to film a music video for her single, "Rabiosa" featuring Pitbull, from her album, Sale el Sol.  Just like the meringue flavored song, it's hot!

Watch as Shakira crashes a party in a black bob wig and works a pole like no one I've ever seen!  Why couldn't this video just be Shakira and a pole?  Her body is to die for!  Rabiosa!

Beyoncé Revists Her Youth

Whoever said youth was just for the young?.. not Beyoncé!

Her fourth solo album, 4, made its rounds on the internet to somewhat less than stellar reactions.  Sasha Fierce has pulled off her weave and opted for a head wrap.  In other words, Beyoncé has gone hipster, kinda.

If you thought this would be anything like her previous album, you thought wrong!  There aren't any upbeat dance tracks (not even "Party" featuring Andre 3000 and Kanye West) except for girl anthem "Run the World (Girls)"!  But, there is "Countdown," a cousin of "Get Me Bodied" and includes a reference to The Fugees!

There are some serious love tracks on the record like "1+1," "Start Over," and "I Care."  These three songs are some of the best work she's ever done as far as her album ballads are concerned.  All three strike chords within me that haven't been struck before, and that's a serious feat!  Her second single, "The Best I Never Had," sounds a lot like her past songs ("Irreplaceable," Deja Vu") but with a classier sound.

The best track on the album in my opinion has to be "End of Time."  Set to the cadence of trumpets and drums Beyoncé sings about loving her man until the end of time.  It's a standout track for me, and I've been listening to it since it leaked weeks ago.  The most interesting track is arguably power ballad, "I Was Here," where Beyoncé explores the idea of fame-- in all its facets.

Although it's not the club anthem or diva sanctified album most people were expecting, 4 is a rock solid album reminiscent of 90s R&B and has this classic girl-rock vibe.  It doesn't sound like anything in the pop world today, and I have to commend her for that!

The Voice Goes Live!

If you aren't a fan of singing competitions, I understand. American Idol, for all its done for the music industry (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert), has made the idea monotonous. To think that in addition to American Idol, we'll now have The Voice and a US version of X-Factor is daunting! But, the time is upon us.

If you don't tune into The Voice to hear what Christina Aguilera has to sing say, then tune in for Dia Frampton!  She is amazingly talented, and you'd know that by watching her rendition of Kanye West's "Heartless" last night!  It was by far her best performance on the show to date, and it was miles ahead of anyone on both Blake Shelton and Christina's team.

Although you don't might know Dia from her band, Meg & Dia, you must check out their latest LP, Cocoon!

Cocoon is available on iTunes today here!

When Florence Welsh Meets Buddy Holly!

If you're a fan of either, then you must listen to Florence's stunning rendition of this 1957 hit!  In honor of Buddy Holly's 75th birthday, a tribute album, Rave On Buddy Holly, is being released in his honor featuring covers by Florence + the Machine, Paul McCartney, Kid Rock, and many more!

The newly Cajun seasoned arrangement breathes new life into the soulful diddly, and Florence knocks it right out of the park!

Rave On Buddy Holly comes out June 28th!  To learn more about it go here!

Simon Curtis Takes Over!

R∆ is finally upon us!..  Simon Curtis's much anticipated sophomore album just hit iTunes and internet distributors!  The unsigned artist has been hard at work on his album for a year, and after releasing two singles and two remixes, the entire album was released!

If 8-Bit Heart was his coming out party, then R∆ is his declaration!  Curtis sings with confidence like a seasoned professional.  Although he hasn't left his robot schtick behind, he's grown from boy to man in two albums!

This isn't more apparent then in songs like "Flesh" where Simon teases sexual innuendos or in "Joshua" where Simon plays a bad boy.  Curtis is experiencing his own Disney star gone bad transformation, and I'd say it's a hot one!

There are some undeniably amazing songs on this album ("Laser Guns Up," "Don't Dance," "Pit Of Vipers," "D.T.M."), but my personal favorite has to be the big boy pop sound of "Enemy."

If you're a fan of the dub-step featured in Britney Spears's Femme Fatale, the themes of Lady GaGa's The Fame, or 90s Max Martin pop, then you must check out this album!

Simon Curtis has got huge potential to be one of the biggest male pop stars of our generation!.. and, I wish him the best and congratulate him on a job well done!
